<p>Of all the warships that shouldn&#8217;t be near an enemy warship, the Dryden tops the list. It only has two weapon batteries, but both are devastating. Essentially combining the Heragul Destroyer and Heragul Seeking Missile Destroyer into one warship, the Dryden has four powerful Anti-Matter missile launchers and two Anti-Matter Disruptors. The Anti-Matter Disruptors feature a new weapon special equipment, reactive, which adds a random amount of damage to the attack. On a lucky roll, the Dryden&#8217;s main battery could possibly inflict more damage than the main battery of the Heragul Battleship.(In case you are wondering, a handful of people have witnessed the power of the Heragul Battleship) The best use of the warship is to have a Arcadia pin an enemy in place while a Dryden stands off at maximum range and literally blasts the target to pieces.</p>

<p>Without active armor, all Colayth Guard Warships will perform and degrade at a different rate than their Surakari or Heragul cousins. Their warships can often hold up to a round of opposing weapon fire without suffering any noticeable consequences, but the collapse point for a Colayth Guard warship occurs sooner than with the other races. However, point values for the Colayth Guard warships are slightly higher than other races, due in part to their increased firepower. The Argyle Frigate can theoretically output 14 points of damage in one turn, compared to the 8 points and 10 points of the Heragul and Surakari Frigates. It accomplishes this higher output thanks to a new special ability called &#8216;Reactor Cycle&#8217;. The main weapon on the Argyle can have reactor power siphoned directly into it in order to allow it to make up to three attacks against the same target in one turn. This high damage value makes the Argyle both a powerful hunter and an effective fleet escort.</p>

<p>When light warships were released as part of the Admiral Rules Pack, they were a game changer. The tactics of these new ships were quite different than any of the warships that came before them. The Arcadia&#8217;s armament allows it to continue to be part of this tradition. Its main weapon is a Gravity Mine Launcher. While this weapon cannot directly harm enemy warships, if it is placed right, it can entrap them and drain them of precious reactor power. This tactic is powerful in its own right, but is absolutely deadly when paired with the long range guns of the Dryden class destroyer.</p>

<p>According to Colayth Guard military doctrine, the role of the aerospace fighter is to provide close defensive support for warships and strike craft and the armament of the Larkin fighter reflects this ideology. Unlike the Heragul Hunters and Surakari Interceptors, the Larkin does not have the ability to inflict damage on enemy warships. Instead, it trades heavy weapons and maneuvering thrusters for advanced targeting computers. With its fighter value &#8217;3&#8242; weapon, the Larkin will almost always best opposing squadrons of equal size. While being in the shadow of a friendly warship&#8217;s flak guns only helps to better their odds of victory, squadrons of Larkins often fly alongside Evartt strike craft in order to escort these bombers to their target.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h5>Several weeks before the Surakari Invasion&#8230;</h5>
<p>Just beyond the borders of the Sarlet District of the Heragul Empire, Exterion Fleet Gamma made first contact with an alien race which calls themselves the Colayth Guard.(Pronounced: Co-lay-th). Speaking to the Heragul in the Krylan language, these mysterious aliens only revealed that they are friends with the Krylan currently being enslaved by the Heragul. Following a violent confrontation between Exterion Fleet Gamma and the new alien race, Heragul High Command decided the only valid option was a swift and decisive military strike. Before the attack could be executed, Heragul history changed forever as the Surakari began their war against the Empire.</p>
<p>Legends of Kalidasia: Exterion Fleets not only introduces the Colayth Guard as an active combat faction, but it also provides a look into the operation of the Heragul&#8217;s most secret fleets. Exterion fleets patrol just beyond the borders of the Empire looking for resource rich systems, signs of ancient civilizations, and in this case, new a alien race.</p>
<p>With this expansion, the Colayth Guard will gain access to six different units: Three warships, one light warship, one fighter squadron, and a new class of unit called a &#8216;Strike Craft&#8217;. In addition to the new unit class, Colayth Guard fleets bring to the table several new weapon special abilities, a new damage model, a new type of mine, and fighter carriers. Over the next few weeks as the expansion gets closer to release, I&#8217;ll be show casing the new units and their weapons in detail, but today I&#8217;m just going to start with the picture below.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Throughout history, the never ending march of technology has always been successful at one thing: The complete annihilation and subsequent rebuilding of business models. Today the Internet is causing the music, TV, and film industry to undergo a major reconstruction. Unfortunately, instead of trying to adapt their business models, the major players are looking to bad legislation, like SOPA and Protect IP, to save them.</p>
<p>Anyone who followed the coverage of CES 2012 on the tech networks, have probably seen the journalists getting all excited over 3D printers. 3D printing technology has been around for quite sometime, and many companies, including Kalidasia Media Productions LLC, have used it in the production of miniatures. 3D printers take a digital file generated by a 3D animation/CAD program and create a physical copy out of several types of plastic. Here is a video by the company <a href="http://www.shapeways.com/" title="Shapeways">Shapeways</a> which shows how one of these machines work:</p>
<p><iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/IM8WU8JfyI8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>Currently, 3D printers that can produce detail levels that rival the elites of the miniature world cost over $10,000 and if someone were to make an exact duplicate of a miniature using 3D printing technology through a 3rd party service, it would still be cheaper to just buy the mini from the original company in the first place. However, time is not on the side of the miniature companies. I would imagine within a few years, it will be cheaper to manufacture your own 3D printed miniature then to purchase them through the traditional retail stores. A few years after that, everyone will either own a 3D Printer, or will know someone who does.</p>
<p>The difficulty that the media industry is facing is that all of their products are now digital files. Once something has become a digital file, it becomes infinitely copyable for free. Software called digital rights management, or DRM, can be used to try and limit the copying. This software however, rarely works as expected. Those who want to copy the content for free will always find a way around the DRM and in the end the DRM usually only hurts legitimate customers. Once 3D printing becomes cheap enough, the tabletop game industry will face the same battle. Regardless of rather it is our 3D files that gets leaked, or someone takes the time to create an exact digital duplicate from a miniature they have in hand, the reality is that our business model will be infinitely copyable for free. </p>
<p>Our only real choice against against this challenge is to adjust our business models. I have can envision several ways to adjust business models, but for now, I am only going to experiment with one. As of today, all of the source 3D model files for the entire Legends of Kalidasia Figure Line, including the never released Surakari Interceptor, are available under a Creative Commons License. While you are not required to pay any money for these files, I would appreciate it if you would consider using the &#8216;name your own price&#8217; feature as payment for my work in creating these files.</p>
<p>Welcome to the future of tabletop gaming, and if you create some awesome warships from these files, then please share them with me.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>For 2012, Kalidasia Media Productions is pleased to announce that Pre-Painted fleets and figures will be added to our product line. The figures included in these sets are completely assembled and hand painted. All additional game tokens and stat cards will be included as well. Since I will personally be hand painting these fleets, they will be available in limited quantities, so be sure to act fast. Often times, there may only be one copy of a fleet available at any given time. </p>
<p>From time to time, I will be willing to commission the painting of a specific fleet list. Submit a fleet list to <script type="text/javascript"> document.write("support" + "@" + "kalidasia" + ".com"); </script> and I will respond with a quote.</p>
<p>The first fleet available for sale is a <a href="http://www.kalidasia.com/2012/01/surakari-command-fleet-75-point/">Surakari Command Fleet</a>. Check out this fleet and future releases at our <a href="http://www.kalidasia.com/products/#PrePaintFigures">Products Page</a></p>
