Playing as the Surakari

Playing as the Surakari

At a glance, Surakari and Heragul stat cards appear to be almost the same, but the small differences drastically affect their play style. Surakari ships have higher speeds and better turning profiles, but have about 10 to 20 percent less armor.

In a straight up slugfest, a Surakari warship will usually not survive against a similar classed Heragul or Colayth Guard warship. Therefore, it is important to spend as much time as possible outside of the enemy’s primary firing arcs. There are a number of ways to accomplish this task.

The Surakari Fleet

Surakari-Frigate-Prime

Frigate Prime

A lightly armored, but decently armed warship, this unit’s best advantage is its ‘A’ turning profile. In a single turn, a Surakari Frigate can make a 180 degree turn. Strike a warship in one turn and then in the following turn, burn past the target and strike it from behind. Attacking a single warship in this fashion with multiple frigates will force the enemy to hunt a single target while ignoring the other frigates.

Frigate Plasma Missile Boat

This frigate is a support version of the prime configuration. Though just as fast as the prime version, it really only needs to use it speed when threatened by enemy ships. Otherwise, keep it back and launch missiles.

Anti Missile Frigate

While this Frigate can perform a similar role as the prime version, its reduced firepower and impressive anti-missile capability make it a better fit in a shield role for larger warships.

Surakari-Gun-Boat-Prime

Gun Boat

The fastest warship in the Kalidasia universe, this warship carries a pair of missile and three turret mounted heavy guns. This weapon combination makes it an excellent flanker. Get behind the enemy battle line and stay there.

Destroyer / Battle Cruiser

Surakari-Heavy-Warships

These two warships are the main attack craft for the Surakari and fill similar roles, but on different scales. Forming up a single strike squadron with one of these warships and two frigates can be an effective way to isolate and destroy an enemy’s warship very quickly. The only real difference between the two ships, other then their size, is that the Battle Cruiser does not carry any directional mounted weapons. Keep this advantage in mind when executing your fleet maneuvers.

Pulsar

While this light warship can potentially cross vast distances in one turn, its lack of armor means survivability lies in either numbers or the evasion of enemy fire. Like the Frigate, this light warship can also perform a 180 degree turn making in great at attacking from outside the target warship’s main field of fire.

Interceptor

The Surakari’s general fighter, the Interceptor works great in either an offensive or defensive role. What role the fighter will play in a battle will often depend on the size of the enemy fighter escort.

Scouts

These fighters are perhaps the best escort fighter in the game. Without the ability to engage enemy warships, scouts have little reason to leave the protection of their parent warship. Instead, once the scouts are in range of their sensors, they can help to improve the accuracy of the parent warship’s attacks.
